Less than six months ago, we broke ground on the new shelter location donated by the City of Dearborn. Construction started immediately and has gone on all through the cold winter. Step by step, week by week, we’ve watched as the ground was leveled, the foundation was poured, and the walls started going up in our future home. Once it’s done, it will be a state-of-the art facility that is environmentally friendly and welcoming to pets and people alike.
The Animal Adoption & Education Center will start with a 10,000 square foot facility, with enough room to house the animals in our care safely and comfortably. We’ll have “get acquainted” rooms where potential adopters can meet their new best friend in a spot much quieter than the current shelter offers. After that part of the building is finished, we’ll then add a 6,000 square foot area for administrative offices, medical care and educational facilities. Our new shelter truly will be “a home with heart,” and we’re thrilled to see that just this week they’ve started adding siding on the west wall of the building. It looks like the new shelter will be ready for us to move in on schedule, in the fall of 2018.
