Official Key Ceremony

Friday, February 19, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join community leaders, supporters, and friends to help celebrate the official transfer of the Amtrak Station from the City of Dearborn to the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit.

This symbolic ceremony is the beginning of a promising new year for the Dearborn Animal Shelter and the thousands of animals who come through our doors.  It is the first stop on our 2016 “rails to tails” journey to “raise the woof” on our “new Home with Heart.”  Click to learn more about our capital campaign.

  • Dearborn Mayor John B. (Jack) O’Reilly Jr. will be formally giving the Amtrak Station key to Friends’ Board Chair, MaryAnn Wright.
  • Special guests: Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, who serves as honorary chair of our campaign; Dearborn City Council members; adorable adoptables.
  • Light refreshments.

Love Your Pet Week of Giving (February 15 through February 20):

The key ceremony is part of a full week of “Giving”, starting on February 15 and going through new-shelter[1]Saturday, February 20.  During this window, we hope to raise $15,000 for our New Shelter—enough to “pay the mortgage” on 1 dog apartment and 1 cat apartment in our new facility.

  • This giving week will culminate on Saturday, February 20, which happens to be National Love Your Pet Day.  We believe this is a wonderful way to celebrate your pet, by helping to build a new haven for animals in need.
  • All week long, we’ll be sharing about the capital campaign fund drive in social media on Facebook and Twitter.  Please help us reach our goal by sharing with all of your friends during the week.
