Updates on Current Shelter Operations

Here you will find the most up-to-date information on current shelter operations, organized by date. This page will be updated as soon as we have any updates or changes to current operations.

May 28, 2020

  • All services are by appointment only. Please call 313-943-2697 to speak with a staff member to make an appointment.

April 13, 2020

  • We will be allowing adoptions by appointment only. The process will be as follows:
    • Select the animal you would like to adopt from the available animals on our website here.
    • Fill out an adoption questionnaire for the animal you are interested in adopting.
    • An adoption counselor will give you a call, go over your questionnaire and set up an appointment to meet the animal.
    • Unfortunately due to safety measures you will not be allowed to view other any other animals while at the shelter.
    • Dog introductions will take place in the outdoor pens, while cat introductions will take place in one of our meeting rooms.
    • As always, please stay home and reschedule your appointment if you have any COVID-19 symptoms or are feeling ill.

March 30, 2020

  • At this time, all adoptions will be temporarily suspended to keep our staff, animals and the community safe. Our staff will be focused on animal care during this time.
  • In accordance with the governor’s Stay Home, Stay Safe Executive Order, FAMD leadership has made the decision to temporarily close all volunteer shifts and restrict all volunteer activity at both shelters effective immediately and lasting until the order has been lifted. Please know this is not a reflection of your value as a volunteer, but a difficult decision to protect you, other volunteers, staff members, the community, and of course, the animals.
  • Due to the Stay at Home, Stay Safe Order and the limited services provided by our participating vets at this time, our spay/neuter and microchip voucher program will be canceled for April. We are sorry for the inconvenience!
  • Our Feed Fido food pantry program is still available by appointment only, to those in need. Please call 313-943-2697 ext. 6002 to make an appointment.
