Get Involved

We are grateful for all of the wonderful people in the community who help or have helped the Shelter care for homeless animals and place them into loving homes. We are often asked by fellow animal lovers the ways to get involved in the Shelter. There are several options for you to help our animals.

Much of what we do at the shelter is thanks to charitable donations from caring, animal-loving people, businesses, and organizations in our community. Tax-deductible donations from compassionate people like you help us nurture homeless dogs and cats and gives them hope to find a loving home.

A Heartfelt Thanks to our 2014 Donors!

Donate to Our New Shelter

After 20 years of providing shelter to more than 45,000 animals and offering high-quality service to the community, we are embarking on a campaign to build a new Animal Adoption & Education Center. Please join us in our efforts to “Build a Home with Heart.” We’ve always had the heart . . . now we need a new home.

Because our staff is very lean, we rely on volunteers each and every day. Our dedicated volunteers do so many things — cuddle cats, walk dogs, counsel adopters, clean cages, transport animals, stuff envelopes, participate in fundraising events.

Some of our most dedicated volunteers are students under the age of 18. These “Kid Crusaders” aren’t afraid to push up their sleeves and go to work. Plus, volunteering at our shelter is a great way to earn community service hours for school or church.

*Court-ordered community service hours are available through a separate program. Call the shelter during normal business hours for more information at 313-943-2697, then press 1.

Thank You Volunteers!

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. We appreciate their dedication every day, but we especially recognize them here.
