FAMD Announces Premiere of Steve Acho Official Organization Song

May 9th, 2023

On April 29, 2023; FAMD threw a benefit concert at the Detroit Design Center, as part of the Artists for Animals concert series; presented by special guest, Peter Oleksiak; with headlining performer, Steve Acho, who wrote the original song, “Be A Friend,” based off of long-time supporter Bob Sayles’ poem.

Marrow of West Village in Detroit provided strolling appetizers; creator Ellie St. Clair of travelling event “Black Card,” Castalia, Paramita Sound and “Detroit As Told By Ellie;” provided a custom craft cocktail selection. Beer was sponsored by 8 Degrees Plato. Wine was curated by Metropolitan Variety Store, also in West Village. The afterglow was heightened by an impromptu performance from one of the guests, baklava donuts, and more drinks; all while enjoying the art with the Nordin family of the Design Center.

Our host for the night, WWJ News Anchor Brooke Allen, won a Radio Broadcasting Award for Best Newscast during the concert, and celebrated with FAMD.

Chief Operations Officer, Elaine Green said, “…an absolutely outstanding event Saturday. EVERYONE had a great time and the surprise additional musician took the event up another notch. Really well done all around.”

The event was a great success, with attendees saying it was the most fun they’ve had at an FAMD event in a  long time. The one-of-a-kind “Friends Forever” sculpture, made specially for FAMD by the Nordin brothers, found its new home with generous live auction winners; merchandise was a big hit; and a portion of the proceeds from artwork bought at the event was generously donated back to FAMD. Successful fundraising like this is needed to support the animals which come through our doors every single day.
