Hope’s Heroes

It’s All About “Hope”

Hope’s Heroes provide for dogs, cats, and other animals who come to our shelter with very special needs. Your Hope’s Hero gift covers the extra care and medical expenses for these animals—including comprehensive medical tests, surgery, medication, and rehabilitation.

Cage Sponsorship

Shelters are very harsh environments and one of our goals is to make the lives of the animals we care for as happy and stress-free as possible. This makes them not only more comfortable, but also more adoptable. Whether an animal stays with us for a few days or a few months, please help provide for their needs while they are in our care. Your personalized cage plaque will hang on your choice of a dog, cat, puppy, or kitten cage. Click the button below to fill out the cage sponsorship online donation form.

Caring Hearts: 3-year pledge to the Friends

What is the Caring Heart Club?

It is a multi-year giving society that allows supporters to create a unique and personal partnership with the Friends and the rescues cared for at the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

What is multi-year pledging?

The amount you pledge this year is the same amount you agree to pledge over the next 2 years.

Why the need for Caring Hearts?

Each year the number of animals who seek safe haven at the Dearborn Animal Shelter tends to increase. As a result, funds needed to maintain day-to-day operations increase as well. Your ongoing gift will help guarantee consistent and known sources of revenue.

What will the proceeds go toward?

Caring Heart dollars help fund day-to-day shelter needs, including:

  • food and formula for more than 2,300 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens
  • regular medical treatments, such as spaying and neutering, and vaccinations; plus, helping to offset the cost of emergency situations that might arise
Caring Hearts are leaders of the pack

Caring Hearts come to the rescue

Balto was found wandering homeless in our community. A beautiful and smart boy, he had so much to give. He was just waiting for his chance. Now named Finley, he is a service dog to an amazing college student who suffers from chronic social anxiety, and thanks to her buddy can enjoy full and meaningful interactions. Finley came to the rescue. Just like his Caring Heart friends!

“Donation Station” Business Partners

Because of our “Donation Station” business partners, we truly believe that success comes in “cans”—canisters, that is. Displaying a canister helps spread the good word about the Friends and the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Plus, the generosity of businesses and their customers helps us provide quality care for more than 2,300 rescues each year, as well as launch new programs to assist companion animals and their pet parents. In 2016, over 100 businesses in Southeast Michigan displayed one of our canisters and helped raise over $29,000 for operating expenses. Paws-itive benefit for businesses: Patrons appreciate philanthropic efforts and tend to frequent establishments that form connections with nonprofits. Your customers will notice! How it “Can” work: Simply provide a prominent space to display our canister. A specifically designated Friends representative will pick up donations on a monthly (or as-needed) basis.

Many thanks to all our Donation Canister Business Partners

You supply the counter space and we’ll provide the canister. In partnership with your customers your business can have a paws-itive impact on the lives of our rescues.

It takes a village to help some 2,300 dogs and cats each year. And the Friends are fortunate that members of the community come to their rescue. In 2016, businesses and individuals raised more than $80,000 through innovative and creative fund- and friend-raisers. They truly “party for a purpose.” We have provided some ideas on how you can “party for pets,” but we invite you to come up with your own ideas.   Complete your application: If you’re interested in hosting a fundraiser (called a third-party event), please print out the Third-Party Fundraising Proposal and submit the completed form as described. The Animals Are Wishing For . . .

From cat litter to computer paper, and from postage stamps to puppy toys, we are always in need of items both to work efficiently and to create the best of homes for our rescues while they wait for their forever families. For example, if you have newspapers that just keep piling up, bring them on over! We clean and line cages multiple times a day and can always use newspaper. So, consider recycling your black-and-white newspaper pages with us. Wish-list items may be dropped off directly at the shelter. Or, for more information, call us at 313-943-2697. Corporate Wish List

It Takes a Lot of Kibble . . .

Imagine over 200 animals living in a 4,000-square-foot space at one time. How much dog food does it take? On average, about 560 pounds of dog food per week. What about cat food? We estimate 200 pounds per week. The numbers are simply astonishing. Because of the overwhelming amount of supplies, it is often easier for corporations, rather than individuals, to donate much-needed animal items in bulk. In addition, companies have the satisfaction that they are making a difference every day in the lives of animals in need. If you have items you’d like to donate that are not on the list, or for more information, contact Sarah Rood at . Remember that all in-kind gifts are 100% tax deductible.

Thank you to our corporate Friends!
